The magician
removes from a drawstring bag eight wooden disks. Each disk has a different
design printed on one surface. The magician states that he has prediction
in the form of an additional disk and places it face down on the table.
Next, the magician asks the spectator to pick up all eight disks and shake
them in her hands to mix them up. Whenever the spectator feels the disks
are sufficiently mixed, she is to drop them all onto the table. The
magician explains that any disk that lands face-down is to be discarded.
The spectator is asked to repeat the shaking and dumping process until only
one disk remains face-up. Although the spectator had complete control of
her actions, the remaining disk exactly matches the duplicate disk the
magician placed in plain sight at the beginning of the demonstration! If
the magician so desires, he can repeat the demonstration and correctly
predict another random disk. Complete with all the wooden disks, a
